Last day of school!!!
We had our farewell assembly this morning, then took a late recess, before returning to class for our Division 10 farewell, some well wishes, and a Year End Slide Show. (I tried to post the slide show, but given the size of the 47 minute HD slideshow, the file is simply too big. I will keep trying.) I loved getting to be your teacher this year, and can't wait to see you all again in September! Enjoy your Summer Break!!! Mother Nature was once again on our side today, as we took ourselves outdoors again, to celebrate our school achievements, and to have a good time at the Cultus Lake Waterslides. Much like Tuesday, the weather was fantastic, and I was incredibly proud of how the students behaved, and followed instructions throughout the day. Judging by the number of smiling faces, it is safe to assume a great time was had by most of the students who took part in our final field trip of the year!!
NOTE: I have added a video of our Robot Dances to the Gallery Page. REMINDER: We will be hosting our final farewell in our classroom at 11am tomorrow, following our school wide morning assembly, and the students' recess break. All parents & guardians are welcome to join us as we look back on our amazing year together. Report cards will be handed out shortly before the dismissal bell at 12:05pm. Please ensure your child brings a snack to school, and I would suggest that parents arrive early, as the parking lot will be busier that usual for pick up! It was the Walnut Grove Water Park day, and Mme. Marcus, Mme. Stopa, Mrs. Gore and I couldn't have been prouder of how our students acted and played today. Along with our nearly 120 students, there were over 100 students from West Langley Elementary, and dozens of children from local daycares at the water park this morning. Our James Kennedy students were very respectful and considerate of all the people taking in the glorious weather at the Water Park today. No pictures to prove me point, but even with water guns, water cannons and water balloons in the mix, the students all kept it fun, and made it an excellent day. A huge relief for those of us taking the students to Cultus Lake Water Slides tomorrow.
REMINDER: Please make sure all the students have food, snacks and at least two bottles of water packed for tomorrow. The sun is supposed to shine most of the day, so please ensure they have sunscreen, as well as a swim suit and towel. We plan to return to James Kennedy Elementary around 5:45pm, so all parents please be at the school no later than 5:30pm for pick up. Also, all parents are invited to join us in the classroom on the final day of classes on Thursday, June 29th at 11am, for our Division 10 farewell. Report cards will be handed out prior to dismissal at 12:05pm. What a way to finish our final full week of schooling! Ms. Morris broke out her Conversation Ball and we tossed it around, answering questions about each other, as part of our Fun Friday warm up activity. Following the warm up it was time to finalize our Robot Dance Videos. After recess it was time for the big reveal, and the remaining groups presented their Robot Dances. We had everything from Dubstep, to Pop, to Ballet!!! IT WAS AWESOME...Great work everyone!!! After lunch it was Mystery Box Show and Tell Time! But before guessing what students had in the mystery box, we had a surprise visit from our Amazing Room Mom, Marion, who brought each of us some delicious and impeccably decorated sugar cookies! (See pics below) After a quick photo shoot, and then devouring our cookies, it was time to let the questions fly, as the students guessed what their classmates had placed in our mystery box. About midway through the afternoon, we took a short 20 minute DPA break outside to burn off the blue, white and green butter icing, then came back indoors to finish our activity.
HOMEWORK: Please bring in your Walnut Grove Water Park permission form on Monday, as we are going to the water park on Tuesday morning. Also, please bring a bag or an empty backpack to bring home your school supplies and work from the year, as we will be doing a desk and cubby cleaning on Monday before the end of the day. REMINDER: We have a couple of important dates to keep in mind for next week, as we close out the 2017 - 18 school year: Monday, June 26 - Desk & Cubby clean out day Tuesday, June 27 - Walnut Grove Water Park Picnic & Play Day with all of the Grade 4 / 5 classes. (Pack your water gun, your swim suit, a towel, some sunscreen, lots of water, and a lunch!!) *NO WATER BALLOONS* Wednesday, June 28 - Cultus Lake Waterslides. Busses will return around dinner time, so please be at the school no later than 5:30pm to collect your children. Thursday, June 29th - Final Day of School. Farewell Assembly in the Morning. Parents are welcome to join us in class anytime after 11:00am for our Year End Slideshow, and Farewell. Dismissal at 12:05 NOTE: Thank you to all of the families for their generosity and support over the year. Marion presented me with a card from the students yesterday afternoon, and I am grateful for all of your kindness over the past 10 months together. It has been my extreme pleasure to be part of your child's educational journey. THANK YOU! Today was like an impromptu Fun Fringlish Friday, as our class combined with Madame Stopa's class for the better part of the school day, for some art, creative writing and Science activities, while the grade 4 students took part in a puberty talk with Mrs. Brocklebank. In the first part of the day, we worked to collect our artwork from our classroom walls, and took a look at how well we'd done with our New Year's resolutions. Mrs. Gammel arrived to lead the class in a math game.
NOTE: Tomorrow is Crazy Hair and Show and Tell Day. Please get your hair done up, and bring something you can fit into a 30cm x 15 cm x 15cm box. (Use your measurement skills to figure out if your item will fit!) REMINDER: Please return any Walnut Grove Water Park permission slips, so that you can join us for the picnic, games, and fun!! As part of our recognition of National Aboriginal Day we spent the first hour of our day in the gym taking in traditional drumming, dancing, singing and First Nation's speakers. Mrs. Roberts led all James Kennedy students though a colourful, artistic and entertaining assembly. Upon our return from the assembly, the students ate their mid-morning snack and then headed outside to see the new portables being installed. After music class, the students had some time to continue their work on their "I can" portfolio projects. After lunch, it was time to settle in to for our daily silent reading period, then outside with Division 8 for a massive game of Capture the Gold. HOMEWORK: Students who have not completed their "I can" portfolios need to have theirs complete on Thursday. On the inside of the portfolio, students should choose examples of work they've done this year that represents one of the three Core Competencies of Communication, Creative & Critical Thinking, and Personal / Social skills. On the outer portion of their portfolio, they should create a title page, on the back it should list their accomplishments this year, and on the inside flap, the students should draw a self-portrait of themselves. NOTE: The students were given permission forms for our proposed field trip to the Walnut Grove Water Park on June 27th. There is no cost for this excursion, and parents are welcome to join us for a mid-day picnic. On the heels of Friday's visit to Playland, Division 10 put the wraps on a thrilling past two days of classes, with a trip to Colossus to see Cars 3! Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the rest of the crew were in display in beautiful HD, as our class joined our Lil' Buddies for an early morning viewing. In the afternoon, the students took up residence in either Mr. Knox's or Mrs. Soo's classes to work on their "I can" portfolio projects. REMINDER: Tomorrow is SPORTS DAY!!! Please make sure you are dressed in your team colours, and are dressed for the weather! RAVENS (Black): Sarah, Tatum, Justin, Rowan, Blake, Erica & Matthew GRIZZLIES (Red): Aiden, Dayton, Josh, Sam, Jackson, Kale & Emily ORCAS (Blue): James, Thomas, Koby, Leanne, Kyle, Chloe C, Kendra & Sol WOLVES (White): Connor, Raiden, Charlie, Chloe S, Jaylin, Maya & Emma Good afternoon parents / guardians of Division 10 students! I know there is a lot of excitement (and some questions) surrounding tomorrow's field trip to Playland, and Hot Lunch, so since I wasn't at school today to explain to the kids, I will do my best to cover any potential questions you may have ahead of tomorrow's field trip. Playland: We are going tomorrow rain or shine, so please have your kids dress for the weather. Tomorrow's forecast is calling for rain in the morning, then overcast with sunny breaks, and a high of 20C in the afternoon. To help prepare for tomorrow's field trip, you may want to check out the rides by clicking HERE. Students are responsible for their bags and belongings, so pack only what they need, including a bottle of water, some snacks and a lunch (or money). It could be sunny, so sunscreen wouldn't hurt either. Parent chaperones, and teachers will not be packing students' bags around for the day. Parent Drivers, can meet in the classroom anytime after 8:30am, where I will go through the plan, and the student groups that they will be responsible for, for the day. At that time we can also exchange phone numbers so that we are able to communicate throughout the day, and I will give you a map to the free parking lot at the PNE (you can also download it from the attachment in the email below.) We plan to leave for Playland shortly after 9am, and return to the school around 4pm. Parents, please be at the school no later than 3:45pm to pick up your children, in case we return early. Hot Lunch: For any student who had paid for Hot Lunch, they will be stored in the fridge, and we will distribute them to the students before they leave at the end of the day. Unfortunately, we could not arrange to have them delivered in the morning, so as I mentioned above, please make sure your child has food or money to take with them to Playland for the day. Should be a lot of fun tomorrow, regardless of the weather!! Thanks a lot for all of your support throughout the year, it is hard to believe that we are only a few short weeks away from summer break!
Super short and sweet today. Began our day by reading a story about a 9 year old boy in New Brunswick (LINK TO STORY HERE), then followed up with some Math worksheets and Science experiments this morning which utilized our fidget spinners. In the afternoon, we read, played Castle Ball & began a new art project. REMINDER: Playland field trip is Friday. Cars 3 field trip with our Lil' Buddies is on Monday morning, and Tuesday is SPORTS DAY. (See parent information letter below!)
