Lots of writing, lots of play, lots of pizza and cupcakes...what a day! Our Tuesday tipped off, as it always does, in the gym, with a round robin laundry basket ball tournament. Super happy to see all students getting involved, having fun and breaking a sweat. When we returned to class we spent some time dissecting stories and their elements. We discussed Character, Setting, Problems, Solutions, Themes and Plot lines. We even created a mind map with those concepts, for a fictional story, based on the students' suggestions. (See below) I then read the picture book, "Where the Wild Things Are" to the class, to see if they could identify the key story elements in the story. After lunch the students planned, then wrote and re-wrote stories about a magic compass, as part of our final section in our Foundation Skills Assessment package. There were a lot of sore fingers and wrists after all the writing today, but I am proud of the effort the students put forward to complete their work.
