First Snowfall of the Year = Lots of Excitement!!! Pulling off our first Table Group Trade of the year...even more Excitement!!!! The day began as normal, with a bit of time to study before writing their Spelling Quizzes. Once they were all corrected and returned, the students practiced an Earthquake Drill. Just before recess, the Grade 6s headed for Band, while the Grade 5 had an abbreviated Health Class, then shipped outside to enjoy the snow. After recess we continued to learn more about Fractions, then had some free time to either work on typing or coding. The end of our day offered up more details about the Heritage Fair, some time to do some research and a bit more time in the snow. REMINDER: With colder weather due next week, please make sure that all students are dressed for the weather. If students are not dressed for the frigid temperatures, I will not allow them outdoors during the recess breaks. |

Holy Cannoli...it was a busy day in our class! From fitness testing in the morning, to a French number review multiplication game, to collaborative art and even a Q & A session with the Grade sixes about Heritage Fair, there was barely a minute to catch our breath.
HOMEWORK: Please study for tomorrow's Spelling Quiz, and complete the sentences that were due for homework today. REMINDER: Please dress appropriately for the weather tomorrow, as the temperatures are supposed to dip significantly overnight. Some students are showing up in sweatshirts, which are no match for the below zero temperatures we are expecting starting tomorrow. Also, please remember to have a change of inside shoes at school. Room 147 felt cavernous today, with us only having 15 of 27 students in attendance for today's lesson. We began with a lesson on Fractions, and Factoring. (I have posted the video on Factoring on the Math page.) Just before recess, we headed outside for some chilly, but dry, DPA. After lunch, we took some time to troubleshoot the school laptops, then used the good one to work on typing. In the afternoon, we had silent reading, then reviewed our Spelling List, and then the students created sentences with this week's spelling words. (See Homework details below.) We finished the day with a class discussion about the Heritage Fair.
HOMEWORK: All students need to complete a sentence using this week's spelling words. Please create sentences that relate to the three news stories we learned about on Monday. (Langley Council Williams Development, Australian Wildfires & US/Iran conflict). Every student who completes their sentences will earn a completion mark in English, as well as 2 points for their Table Group Team. It was a super day in Room 147! The class had a jam-packed day for learning today, from reviewing Fractions, to English, to Fitness Testing and even some Mad Libs! It was a fantastic day in Division 7.
HOMEWORK: Please review this week's spelling words, which can be found on the English page, and take another look at today's Fractions videos which are on the Math page. REMINDER: All grade 6 students taking part in the Ski and Snowboarding program need to be at the school with all their gear by no later than 820am. All Ski and Snowboard participants will be meeting in the Gym, and buses will be leaving promptly at 845am. After 16 days away it was time to get back it, so Division 7 students jumped right back into their schoolwork today. Our day got off to an exciting start, with a game of Castle Ball in the gym with Mr. Chan's students. When we returned to class, we sat in a circle and shared a bit of what each of us had done over the holidays, before capping the first part of our day with some French review. After recess, we learned more about Numerators, Denominators, Equivalent Fractions and how to Add and Subtract fractions. In the afternoon, we watched and discussed the impact of three different news stories: Langley Town Council & the Williams development, the Australian Wildfires and the fallout of the US Airstrike on the Iranian General in Iraq. With all the wet weather, it was an inside recess and lunch, so when the skies finally let up, the students escaped outside for some much needed DPA.
Note: We will resume our fitness testing tomorrow, so please be sure to have appropriate athletic clothing. |
