It was a primarily Grade 5 day in Division 7, as the majority of our Grade sixes were at Mt. Seymour taking part in the Ski & Snowboard program. For those who remained behind, we began with Spelling Bingo, followed by a visit from a WGSS student who presented her Capstone research project on Environmental Education. Not only was it an awesome presentation, but it facilitated excellent classroom discussion around Environmental stewardship. I've posted the follow up video below if you'd like to watch it. In the afternoon we did some typing practice, and had some time in the gym to play Crab Soccer.
The focus today was on Heritage Fair Projects, as I was able to check in with about a 1/4 of the students on their progress. I am hoping to check in with at least another quarter tomorrow as we draw ever closer to our next deadline which is next Monday. Outside of working on our projects, the Grade 5 student had Health and Music classes, and the Grade 6s had Band and Book Club this afternoon. We also had the chance to reform our Quidditch teams from earlier in the year, as the students had their first full game day of Laundry Basket Ball.
REMINDER: I have posted the Confirmed Heritage Fair Projects on the Social Studies page, this week's Science-inspired spelling words on the English page and the confirmed baking groups on the French Page. NOTE: I sent home a light purple coloured permission form for our trip to the Planetarium next month. If you could please send the forms along with the payment in as soon as possible I would really appreciate it. After a prolonged absence from the class, it was great to see the students' smiling faces this morning! We began with a trip to the gym to learn the basics of Laundry Basket Ball. Once back from the gym, we settled on our groups recipes for our Bilingual Baking Assignment, and then appropriately had a snack. After recess, the class and I headed down to the Library to see Mme. Gammel who introduced them to the digital resources available to them through the school's library. When we returned to class, we brought the laptops with us, and the students had time to research their Heritage Fair projects using the World Book Online. After lunch we were off again, this time to see Mrs. O'Shea for some Lil' Buddy time. We finished our day with a discussion on the feasibility of making Lunar and Martian Space Bases, then listened to a recent Science Podcast on the topic. The Podcast can be heard by <CLICKING HERE>.
REMINDER: Today was supposed to be the deadline to have the rough outline of the Heritage Fair Project details, a rough sketch of the display, and description of the creative component. I will instead check them in class tomorrow. Also we still have about 8 students who have not handed back their permission forms for the WGSS student presentation that will be taking place later this week. If anyone still has theirs, please get them signed and turned in as soon as possible. |
