The day's schedule was thrown into the blender today, and because of some necessary changes around the school our daily plan was turned on its ear. That said, we pulled through with flying colours, and the class' adaptability really shined through! Our day began with a homework check and a review of the week's spelling words and their definitions. When the Grade sixes left for band, the Grade fives and I stayed behind to make sure we had a good handle on the meaning of this week's words. All of the spelling words and their contextual meanings are posted on the English page. Be sure to review the definitions as well as the spelling of this week's words. After recess, we had a practice lock down drill, then spent some time talking about our strengths, weaknesses and thinking more about what makes us great in our own way. After lunch we had an extended silent reading while some of the sixth graders worked on their Young Entrepreneur Fair projects, and I reported back scores and feedback from last week's presentations. The day was capped with the first two rounds of our Quidditch Playoffs!
REMINDER: Tomorrow is both Skating lessons and the Young Entrepreneur Fair. Grade fives will be heading to Sportsplex, while the Grade sixes will stay behind to set up and begin selling their products. Doors to the classroom will open at 8:40am, and students and parent-drivers can begin filing in then. Also, any grade 6s who are taking part in the ski/snowboard program need to have their forms and at least partial payments in by Friday, December the 6th. NOTE: I will still require as many parent-volunteer drivers as possible for tomorrow to get our students safely to the arena and back on time. If you are unable to be there tomorrow, PLEASE CONTACT ME so that I can make alternate driving arrangements. Finally, I am still looking for at least one more parent-driver for Friday's field trip to LEFT. Please email me if you are able to help. No better way to shake off the weekend rust then a blast around the gym on broomsticks with bludgers and quaffles. Today marked our final day of the round robin portion of our Quidditch tournament. When all the dust had settled, it was Gryffindor in first, Hufflepuff in second, Ravenclaw in third, and Slytherin sliding into the final slot. Playoffs start tomorrow! The back half of the morning featured French Frappette and finishing flash cards. Between recess and lunch we dug a little deeper into fractions, decimals and percentages. The day finished with a visit from our Kindergarten Buddies, then time to complete Spelling definitions and sentences.
HOMEWORK: Please write out a definition and a sentence for each of the 20 Spelling words, if you didn't finish in class. (This week's spelling list can be found on the English Page.) I will be checking for completion and awarding points tomorrow morning. ** Students can pass on "IDEALOGICAL" as I will review its meaning tomorrow in class. Also, a permission and information form was sent about our Field Trip this Friday to LEFT. Please fill in the Photo permission form, if you are okay with your child being photographed or filmed during their visit. NOTE: I am still looking for another driver or two for our Field Trip on Friday. If you can drive, please contact me at: [email protected] |
