NOTE: Normally we would switch our table groups at the end of the month, but the groups are working so well together that I am going to carry the groups through until the Winter break.
What a day! Not only did we successfully put the wraps on the first day of round robin play in our Quidditch tournament, but we also managed to do some fun review of our French Vocabulary and even got a Reading Comprehension Test on Honey Badgers completed, and even watched a video about them (see below) all before noon. Friday's can be tough at times, as the students can be worn out from a long week, however, the class was on point today, and did an absolute boatload of work. In the afternoon we read 3 more chapters of "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library", and then had time to work on math or complete their art work from earlier in the week. Super proud of all of the students for their hard work, and for having to tolerate a coughing, sick teacher all week!! NOTE: Normally we would switch our table groups at the end of the month, but the groups are working so well together that I am going to carry the groups through until the Winter break.

I have been so impressed with the students work ethic the past few days. I have been under the weather all week and have but a lot of the ownness on them to stay on task and get their work done. Today's menu included our first full foray into Quidditch with hoops, music, some reflex math to brush up on math fact fluency, time to do some Holiday art in preparation for our Little Buddies visit next week, and about an hours for each Robotics group to work on their Robot Mazes. Overall, it was a pretty great day in Division 8!
REMINDER: Tomorrow is Hot Lunch, and we do not have a spelling quiz this week. Today was an abbreviated school day, with the students being dismissed at 11:30 this morning. For the students who did show up, the class had the chance to introduce their Superheroes, correct our Spelling Quizzes, and review Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Place Value and Measurement ahead of tomorrow's Math Review. Below are some photos of what we reviewed in class on the white boards, as well as a sampling of some of our class' amazing Superheroes. (The rest of the Superheroes, can be found on the Art Gallery page of the class website.)
HOMEWORK: Study for tomorrow's Term 1 Math Review. REMINDER: We have our Skating lesson on Wednesday morning at Sportsplex. Today was the first Fun Frenglish Friday of the year, and the theme was Superheroes and Disney Characters! The students rotated through 5 different activities throughout the day. Comic creation in Mme. Small's room, Superhero bookmarks in Ms. Chijiwa's classroom, Mme. Stopa had the students playing Jeopardy, Mrs. Langer did some Disney themed drawing lessons, while the grade 4s and 5s created Superhero puppets in my class. Overall, it was a fantastic day!!
REMINDER: Monday is an early dismissal day, and student will be let out at 11:30am. HOMEWORK: Please study / review math for Monday's Math review. See below for what will be on the review...
This morning we finally got to break out the Quidditch hoops in gym class, and were able to test them out ahead of next week's Quidditch tournament. Instead of playing the Harry Potter inspired game, the teams broke into their four houses, and played some 4 corners Dodge Ball, with the hoops serving as a way to bring all your teammates back into the game if you could throw the ball through. It was very chaotic, and yet very exciting at the same time. After returning from Music class, we reviewed our list of Superhero spelling words, and went over the definitions of each of the super powered adjectives. Once our review was done, there were a few minutes for Bingo, before writing the quiz before the lunch hour bell. In the afternoon, I wanted to give the students the maximum amount of time to work on measuring and drawing out their robot mazes, as well as time to finish the good copy of their Superhero back stories, and their illustration.
HOMEWORK: Please finish your Superhero back story and your drawing. They are both due tomorrow first thing in the morning. NOTE: Friday is our very first FUN FRENGLISH FRIDAY, and this month's theme is Superheroes and Disney characters. If any student shows up in costume, I will award their table group 10 points! REMINDER: Monday is an early dismissal, and students will be let out at 11:30am. Great day again today, as the students were, for the most part, in top form! We kicked off our day with a twirl around the ice at Sportsplex for lesson 3 of our skating lessons. When we returned after recess, there was just enough time to eat a quick snack, before diving head first into either our Robot Mazes (which are coming along nicely), or our Superhero art and back story assignment. In the afternoon we snuck in an hour of typing lessons and Reflex Math, before returning to our mazes and artwork.
HOMEWORK: Tomorrow will be our Spelling Quiz, so please study tonight! ( Spelling words are posted on the English Page) Friday will be a full day of fun and activities, as we celebrate our first Fun Frenglish Friday of the Year!! The theme is Superheroes and Disney Characters, so any student who dresses up as either a Superhero or Disney Character will automatically earn their table group 10 Points!!! It was the usual Monday morning routine this morning, as we had a visit from the Candy Bones Theatre, who put on a solo play. It certainly wasn't your usual performance, but it introduced to the students to a number of different artistic techniques, including: mime, stop motion, shadow puppetry, tap dance and physical comedy. As the performance took most of the morning, we only had time to return to class for snack before the recess bell. After recess, the students headed off to library with Madame Gammel, and then headed outside to play some ball tag before lunch. In the afternoon, we divided the class into two groups to give them the maximum amount of time to work on their Robot mazes, while also having time to work on their Reflex Math and Typing.com lessons.
REMINDER: Tomorrow is a collaboration day, and students will be dismissed at 1:30. NOTE: This week's spelling words have been posted on the ENGLISH Page. We will have our Spelling quiz on Thursday, as Firday will be our first FUN FRENGLISH FRIDAY of the school year! It was an action packed day right from the word go this morning! Following a brief overview of the day, we quickly jumped right into French, by first reviewing all of our flashcard vocabulary words, then breaking into groups for an epic match of "Frappette"! After recess, we headed to the gym, though not for our regular gym time, but rather to visit the WGSS hosted "Caine's Arcade" which was set up for us to enjoy! The students were paired off with their Kindergarten Buddies, and it was awesome to see all the kids having such a great time. In the afternoon, the class broke off into their Robot Mazes coding teams and began work on their full scale robot mazes.
NOTE: Remember that while Monday is a regular school day, Tuesday is a Collaboration Day, and the students will be dismissed at 1:30pm. Also, we have our regularly scheduled skating lesson on Wednesday, and our very first Fun Frenglish Friday later in the week!! The class began their day in the gym with the actors from Dream Riders' Theatre, who spoke to the students about global warming and environmental responsibility. After recess, the students returned to class to continue to refine their Robot mazes as part of our measurement and coding project. In the afternoon, the students were able to test drive their mazes to code their robots, or to work on their flashcards or math facts fluency.
HOMEWORK: Please finish drawing, labeling and colouring your French flash cards. See yesterday's Daily Recap for details. |
