Lots of hands on work today, as Division 8 students put their fractions skills to work and made some dough for dough ornaments. Once all the dough was kneaded and ready to roll, our Lil' Buddies popped by to make their own ornaments. After recess, the Kindergartners returned and were entertained by the Grade 5s who read each of them their Holiday stories. (Lots of smiling faces!!) In the afernoon, it was time to finally to paint and decorate the dough ornaments. Lots of mess, but lots of fun today! A massive thank you to all the parent-volunteers who came by to help bake our 7 full trays of ornaments.
It was another day to put the finishing touches on the students' Holiday stories for their Little Buddies. There were breaks today for some games during our inside lunch hour, as well as a trip to the gym to watch the primary Christmas performance.
HOMEWORK: Little Buddies Holiday Story Books need to be finished for tomorrow, as we are planning to read them when our Little Buddies visit in the morning. Also, tomorrow is the last day to bring in your permission slips and your gifts for Friday's gift exchange. REMINDER: We will be doing our Dough Ornaments tomorrow. Thank you to Connor, Jeffrey, Jaden and Rhys' moms who are all coming to help with the baking. It was a head down work day in room 147 today. As the students worked on their Little Buddies Holiday Story Books for the major part of the day. Their story writing was broken up with a trip to see Mme. Gammel in the library shortly before recess, some team tag outside, and a quick run mid-afternoon, to get the blood flowing and to break up writer's cramps. The students worked incredibly well today, and I am really looking forward to seeing their completed books!!
REMINDER: Please bring an clean, empty glass jar for an art project we will be working on starting tomorrow. Also, permission forms and exchange gifts are due no later than Wednesday. NOTE: Thank you to Connor's mom and Rhys' mom who will be coming to help us on Wednesday with our dough ornaments. THANKS!! FRIDAY IS NOT ONLY OUR CLASS CHRISTMAS PARTY, POTLUCK & GIFT EXCHANGE, but it is also PAJAMA DAY at JKE!!! )It was our second Fun Frenglish Friday of the year, and today's theme was Holiday activities and crafts. In our class, we played Holiday Music Bingo, while in the other classes they did art related activities, as well as a multiplication and graphing assignment in Mr. Chan's class. I wish I could share photos with you of today's activities, but because each group was comprised of students from 6 different classes, I didn't have permission from all the students. REMINDER: The students were sent home with information and permission forms for next week's holiday classes. I have also attached the forms below just in case it didn't make it home. Some of the students signed up for which food / drinks or items they would like to bring for next Friday's party, and I have included a PDF copy of their choices below. Finally, any student who would like to take part in the Class Gift Exchange, needs to bring their $10 gift unwrapped by no later than Wednesday. ( I have some of my former students coming in to wrap the gift on Thursday.) HOMEWORK: Students need to complete the rough copy of their Little Buddy Holiday Stories, and have it corrected for Monday. Also, students should bring a clean, empty glass jar for an art project on Monday.
After a steady diet of Quidditch the past 4 weeks, we played some Bench Ball in class today. Following gym, it was off to music, then back inside for recess as it was torrential outside. In the mid part of our day, the students played musical spelling Bingo, before writing their spelling quiz. In the afternoon, the students read for about 20 minutes, then spent the rest of the day working on their Little Buddy Holiday Stories. HOMEWORK: Students need to finish their rough copies of their stories, and have someone in their home make corrections. On Monday, we will be starting our good copies. REMINDER: Friday is Fun Frenglish Friday and Hot Lunch Day!! See below for photos from today's final day of skating, as well as a pair of pics from Slade's fantastic presentation on Canadian Geese!!
The daily recap today is more about what is due or coming up, rather than what we did this Tuesday. Today's focus was working on the Little Buddies Holiday stories, refining the student's math fact fluency and getting caught up on incomplete work. The students also put in a excellent performance of "Silver Bells" at this afternoon's Intermediate Band Concert.
HOMEWORK: Students need to finish their Math worksheets from earlier today, as well as completing the decorations of their Math Multiplication Chart. (Make sure to correct the 4 x 12s and the 4 x 7 column) **I definitely should have double-checked the multiplication chart before downloading it.** REMINDER: Tonight's Band Concert begins at 7pm, and students should report to our class between 630pm - 645pm. Also, tomorrow is our final Sportsplex Skating Lesson. Please be at school on time, and don't forget your skates, helmet and gloves. NOTE: The Holiday Class party will be held on Friday, December 21st. We will be having a gift exchange, and to participate, students need to bring an unwrapped generic gift worth no more than $10. Please bring the gift in a plastic bag or box. * If anyone would like their son or daughter to take part, but is financially unable to purchase a gift, please send me an email with your son or daughter's name at: [email protected] and I will make arrangements for them to take part, no questions asked.** It was definitely a Monday morning, as it took the class a good half hour to get our brains and bodies out of first gear. To help facilitate things, we played a warm up game of Alphabetical Hot Potato. After a few false starts, we finally got things pointed in the right direction and we were ready to move onto French. The class did a very good job of creating french phrases with their limited vocabulary , and based on their sentences I helped introduce some of the most common verbs. I have attached a small sampling of the student's phrases below as a photo. (Please note: the phrases are not conjugated or did I correct masculine or feminine, as I am simply trying to introduce the nouns & verbs, and not concerned with the correct conjugated forms at this point.) After recess, the students had library with Mme. Gammel. In the afternoon, we visited with our Lil' Buddies and the Grade 5's interviewed the Kindergartners for their Holiday stories, then helped them create reindeer art. When we returned to class, and handful of students helped decorate our Holiday Door Banner, while the rest of the class had DPA outside. **THIS WEEK'S SPELLING WORDS ARE ON THE ENGLISH PAGE IF YOU WANT TO STUDY THEM EARLY.** REMINDER: Tomorrow are the Intermediate Band Concerts, and the students are performing at 1pm, and again at 7pm. Students can come to class and quietly read, write draw or play board games as early as 6:30pm. **Please do not drop the students off earlier than 6:30pm** NOTE: I will be discussing details of the Class Christmas party with the students tomorrow, but we will be doing a Gift Exchange this year, and not Secret Santa as in years past. Students have a max budget of $10, and need to bring their gifts unwrapped in a bag and dropped off to me to be wrapped. Participation is optional, but if there are any families who find this a hardship at this demanding time of the year, but would like their son or daughter to participate, please contact via email at: [email protected] (no explanation necessary), and I will ensure they are able to take part in the exchange activities. Two weeks and counting until the students break for the winter holidays. This was the last Friday to get the Robot Mazes completed and to demonstrate the students' coding prowess. Before getting into our coding, we began our morning with some creative story writing. With next Friday being Fun Frenglish Firday, and the following week scheduled for our Class Christmas party, the class put its collective head down today, and powered through, completing their mazes on time. With word spreading of their incredible work, two very important visitors( Mrs. Pimentel and Mrs. Lainchbury) made their way to our room to see the results of their effort.
