As much as I loved the day away with the Heritage Fair students on Thursday, it was great to be back in the class today. Lots of exciting stories to share, and some important work to get down to. Madame Gammel, as she had done yesterday, was first up with the students, as they headed to the library for their weekly literature and literacy lesson. When the class returned, we broke for snack, then slid on our sweaters and outside shoes and made our way to the upper field for a game of Kick Ball. After recess, it was time to do our Weekly spelling quiz, but unlike our Monday results, the Stephen Hawking list gave students fits, and their scores were only okay. That said, next week is a new set of words, and I know the class will rebound with a better effort, and scores. In the afternoon, we met up with Mrs. O'Shea's class and did a Coast Salish art project. With the weather being as nice as it was, and the storm clouds visible on the horizon, we opted to head outside to enjoy the sunshine and some play time with our Lil Buddies.
HOMEWORK: Students need to complete their work packages from Thursday. Students who attended the Heritage Fair are encouraged to do their Spelling word stories, but do have the option of skipping that particular assignment. All other assignments, including the Waste to Energy video questions, Stephen Hawking reading comprehension questions and the Math Fraction sheets are due Monday. (I attached a scanned copy of the Stephen Hawking story & questions on the Language Arts page.)
NOTE: Thank you to all the parents who have turned in their permission forms for our proposed field trips to the Stave Falls Powerhouse on May 8th, and the Waste-to-Energy facility on May 10th. I say "proposed" because while they are scheduled and confirmed, we are still very short on Parent-Volunteer Drivers. If there is any opportunity that you are available to drive on either or both of the days, please contact me at: [email protected]
