The students put their brainpower to good use today, as we ran through a battery of skill testing activities, all designed to have them work together and use what we have learned since the beginning of the year. Once the students returned from music class this morning, they began to work on their BC Communities Word Search and Mapping activity. With their table group teammates, they had to seek out and locate over 30 large to mid-sized BC communities. I was really happy to see them all working so collaboratively to problem solve, and use their time efficiently. After lunch, as a reward for their terrific work throughout the morning, they had 30 minutes of their choice of reading, writing, drawing or playing board games with their classmates. Once we were all packed up, it was time to put their thinking caps back on for four rounds of Santa's Secret Math Challenge. Each group had do calculate answers to different word problems ranging from Santa's caloric intake, to the distance Jolly Old Saint Nicholas needs to travel on Christmas Eve. The questions were intended to be tough, but not impossible, and to her credit, Angela answered every one of the questions correctly, and within the time limit!!! It was a super way to cap off a very busy week at JKE.
REMINDER: As part of our Countdown to Christmas week, we will be having a very creative, crafty and hands-on week in Division 8. I am asking students to bring in a Toonie this week, to help pay for some of the crafts and goodies they'll be taking home at the end of the week.
Also, I am hoping for a couple of Parent volunteers to help us with the making and baking of Dough Ornaments on Wednesday morning from 9am - noon.
Finally, we will be having our Holiday Class Party and Secret Santa Gift Exchange on Friday. I will send out a sign up sheet for the potluck portion of the party next week, and students should have all of their Secret Santa gift wrapped, labelled with the recipients name only and handed in by no later than Wednesday, December 20th.
