Mondays always take a while to get rolling, so we began with a familiar task this morning. To begin our week, the students interviewed each other to gather information in order to create a summary of the partner. This exercise was intended to help the students organize their writing into groups or categories in preparation for paragraph writing. Just before recess, we had a visit by students from Mme. Calado's class, who talked to us about Louis Riel (Last Monday was Louis Riel Day), and they brought us freshly made bannock!! After recess, we were joined by Mme. Missel's grade 2 class, who helped us translate a video about le Carnaval de Quebec. CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE. After lunch the class divided in two and half worked on their Heritage Fair Research, while the other half read. After 30 minutes, the groups switched. Midway through, we had a visit from Liam from Ms. Dinner's class, who made it to Regionals in the Heritage Fair last year, and he shared his experience, research tips and advice. We finished our day with a discussion circle, where the students all shared their Heritage Fair Topics, and a bit about what they've learned. (You can find the list of topics on the Social Studies page.)
HOMEWORK: Please finish your summary from this morning. It does not to be a good copy, but it does need to be complete before tomorrow morning.
