We started our day with a collaborative story telling exercise. We began with each student contributing 1 word to the story, then adding on as they travelled clockwise around their circle. We did this first round for 30 seconds, then shared. We then moved onto 2 words for 45 seconds, following the same format. We then went to 3 words per student for a minute, and finished with a 2 minute story telling session. Lots of fun, lots of giggles, and lots of creativity! The intent was not only to get them thinking creatively and collaboratively, but also to work on their listening skills. After story telling, it was time to finish up our Remembrance Day art and to decorate our class wreath. During recess, our poem readers (Maya, Jasleen & Angela "War is Never Over", and Megan G, Megan O, Alex C & Emily "In Flanders Fields") practiced for their reading at Wednesday's Remembrance Day Assembly. After recess, the student worked on their multiplication table, did rough designs for the Superhero and Jersey Day posters, and then had a visit from Mrs. Lainchbury and Mrs. Pimentel, to talk to them about safety, school boundaries and school ground rules. After lunch, we had a bit of time to choose our images and colours for the Jersey and Superhero Spirit Day posters, before our Lil' Buddies class arrived to help out. Once the Kindergarteners had headed back to class, we quickly cleaned up, and took advantage of the glorious weather outside and had DPA. Overall, it was a pretty fantastic Monday in division 8!
HOMEWORK: Please bring a toonie or loonie to school on Tuesday, or Wednesday to donate to the Royal Canadian Legion for the poppies they donated to our class. Also, if you haven't already, please make sure you bring an indoor pair of shoes, as the weather is bound to get worse!
REMINDER: Wednesday is try #2 for our skating program. Students and parent drivers can meet in our room as early as 8:30am, as I would love to have attendance done, and be out the door and with our drivers by 8:50am if at all possible. Also Wednesday is our Remembrance Day Assembly. Classes will be called down shortly after 1pm, and we will have Maya, Jasleen & Angela reading the poem, "War is Never Over", while Megan G, Megan O, Alex C & Emily will be reading "In Flanders Fields" as part of Remembrance Day program. Parents are welcome, but please email me at [email protected] or contact the office, if you are planning to attend.
