It was a bit of a roller coaster day in Division 8, with some high highs, and some low lows. First the good...the students took part in their first full math test scenario today, and I was pleasantly surprised at how well most of the class worked through, what was intended to be, a challenging first crack at test writing. The students worked hard to think through the word problems, to decipher what was relevant to solving their questions, and also took time to prioritize what needed more or less of their attention. As for the areas that needed work, there were definitely a few today. Instead of our usual Spelling Bingo, and our planned math review game this morning, the students were being very disruptive and overly loud, so instead, I had them work individually in silence, as a way to remind them that if they'd prefer to work in a collaborative environment, that they need to be more responsible, and to make better choices with their actions in class. With that said, they did take the lesson to heart, and understood where they needed to improve their behaviour, which was the intention. In the afternoon, students had a choice between finishing up their Math quizzes, or reading, before we headed outside to collect our pumpkins for next week's Halloween party, and to play 3 different versions of Capture the Flag.

Students can definitely wear their costumes to school on Tuesday, but please be aware that costumes CANNOT be gory, violent, or feature weapons.
