As has been the case the past few weeks, our focus in class today was once again on preparations for the Heritage Fair next week. To get our brains warmed up this morning, I read pretty much the entire "Justin" chapter from Wonder, and we stopped to talk about, predict or discuss what has been happening in the novel so far. From there, we switched gears, and watched a short informational video on Paragraph Writing, and then watched it again to take notes. (Both the video, and the notes are posted on the Social Studies page). After recess, we returned to doing research, and I was able to check in with another half dozen students to see how their projects are progressing. After lunch, the students had the chance to catch up on the reading of their own novels, then it was off to Gym class to play "Knock Down". To cap off the rest of the day, I checked in with the remaining students, and the class had the choice of researching, completing their self-evaluation or art.
HOMEWORK: I have been able to check-in with nearly all the students, and things are looking good on the research front. It is now time for the students to begin typing out the good copy of their research reports. I will go through the details tomorrow, but in a nutshell, I am looking for a 1 - 2 page typed research summary, written in full sentences and organized into paragraphs. It should include the key points of their research, but should also include an opening paragraph, stating why they chose their topic, and why it is important that others know about it. Also, every presentation requires a display, so if you have not done so yet, please be sure you have an appropriately sized presentation board. The maximum allowable size, as per the Heritage Fair website is: 80cm deep, 150cm wide & 100cm tall.
REMINDER: In celebration of Respect and Diversity Week, tomorrow is Pink Shirt Day!
