Sun was shining, students were on task (for the most part), we got to go skating, no one go hurt, there were no conflicts or arguments to report...I have to say...it was a pretty fantastic day in Division 8. As our Wednesday's have the past 6 weeks, we made our way to the Sportsplex to get our skates, helmets and gloves on and took part in a skating lesson. Today was evaluation day, and the head instructor, Coach Marcie, came to tell Madame Marcus and I, how impressed she was with our classes progress. NICE!
When we returned, it was time to continue with our Computer Sciences Week, and we had our Hour of Code. We used our MacBooks to log on to code.org and take part in their mini-lessons and tutorials. There were lots of smiling faces, and even some groans when I had to take the computers back for lunch break. It was awesome to see the students working independently, solving problems, and overcoming coding challenges. For the final couple hours of the day, the students continued to work on their Holiday stories, with today being the in-class deadline for their rough copies. We also had a quick trip to the library, as well as some DPA.
HOMEWORK: Anyone who isn't finished their Rough Copy of their Holiday story needs to have it complete and handed in for tomorrow. Also, I would ask students to bring their own headphones or earbuds for Thursday and Friday, as we will each continue to work through the different lessons on code.org. Finally, we briefly discussed doing a Secret Santa, so students should talk to their parents about involvement in the gift exchange, and to think of a gift that a classmate could purchase for $10 or less.
