As it was Wednesday morning, the day began with Music class with Mr. Tressel, while I prepared materials for next week. When the class returned from their recorder lessons, there was a few minutes to gobble down a snack, before joining Mr. Chan's class in the gym for Castle Ball (see photos below). After recess, the class completed an activity sheet based in preparation for tomorrow's field trip to the Metro Vancouver Waste-to-Energy facility. I also added a second video explaining the waste to energy process, for the students (and parents) which can be viewed on the Science & Technology page of the class website. Once they had a good handle on how the garbage is turned from waste to energy, they were given the green light to login to their Typing.com accounts and work on their typing skills.
After lunch was a bit chaotic, if I'm honest. Silent reading was definitely not silent, and the students were either highly distracted by the sunshine outside or disinterested in reviewing the worksheet (or a bit of both), so we struggled to keep our focus. The trend continued in library and again while walking the halls, so for about 10 minutes we practiced walking the halls quietly and in a single file line. Recognizing their antsiness, they headed outside for 10 minutes to burn off some energy before returning to class for some last minute instructions and clean up.
REMINDER: Thursday is both our field trip to the Waste-to-Energy facility in Burnaby, as well as early dismissal. We should be back form our field trip during the lunch hour, and students will be dismissed at 1:30pm. PLEASE REMEMBER ALL STUDENTS, AND PARENTS ATTENDING TOMORROW'S FIELD TRIP NEED TO WEAR LONG SLEEVES, PANTS & CLOSE TOED SHOES.
NOTE: Our tour begins at 9:45am, so to ensure we aren't late, I have asked to students to be at school by 830am, so that we can leave at the bell. I will open the classroom door at 8:25am for students and parent-drivers/chaperones.
