I would normally have strapped on the blades and joined the students on the ice for their skating lesson today, however I opted to watch and observe their progress from the bench instead. I am incredibly proud of the strides many of the students have taken over the first four weeks of skating lessons, and it is fantastic to see them building their confidence and abilities. Emily, Jasleen and Matthew, to name a few, have shown amazing improvement over the past few weeks. Our skating lessons will continue over the next couple of weeks, before they wrap up on December 13th. Back at school, I challenged the students again, to take the robotics and codings skills they've been acquiring over the past few weeks, and to test themselves by coming up with a Robot Dance. I gave the students 45 minutes to code and choreograph their robots to a pre-selected song. The songs they created dances for included: Barbie Girl by Aqua, All-Star by Smashmouth, That's What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction, Body Like a Back Road by Sam Hunt, and Ride by Twenty-One Pilots. Both Mrs. Lainchbury and Mrs. Pimentel joined us after lunch for the dance performances, and they (and I, of course) were thoroughly impressed with the work the students' accomplished in such a short period of time. (I will attempt to upload the videos to the Student Gallery Page later in the week...once report cards are done!) Once all the robots and iPads were safely packed away, we headed off to the library for our weekly book exchange, then finished our day with silent reading and a quick clean up.
HOMEWORK: We are going to take a break from Spelling this week, so that the students' can focus their attention on their Entrepreneur Fair Projects. Please make sure that you are working hard to complete all your products, so that they will be ready to display and sell at Monday's Young Entrepreneurs Fair. Also, please be sure you have all the items necessary for your display, and that you have the necessary float, and cash box. (Mrs. Gore and I suggest you have about 10 dollars in loose change (quarters, loonies and toonies), and that you have a pencil box, or something else to keep your money in.) Also, if you are planning to shop, please make sure you have someone to watch your stall, and that you have some spending money set aside.
