This morning featured our very first quiz of the school year, and it was met with a surprising amount of cheers?! The class had their first foray into spelling quizzes, and despite the challenging list of words, they did very well overall. Nice! In the late morning as the grade sixes left for band, the grade fives and I watched some live footage of the Global Climate Action Strike, then watched a video from Youth Environmental activist Greta Thunberg, as well as our Prime Minister's thoughts on his meeting with her earlier this week. We talked about causes of climate change, and how we can do our part to combat pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
Following recess, all the students regathered together to work on their Online Shopping Challenge activities. Joe and his keen eye caught a misstep in my calculations sheets, rightfully pointing out that all the purchase prices should be multiplied by 0.12, not 1.12 as indicated, as it would skew the tabulations. Great work Joe!!! I love it when students have attention for detail. After lunch, the class divided once again with the sixes going to Enrichment, while the 5's learned how to login and logout of their Office 365 accounts on public computers.
HOMEWORK: No Homework this weekend.
REMINDER: Monday, is Orange Shirt Day...so be sure to wear Orange if you have it!
