It was a really interesting and enlightening day in class. Our morning began with the usual trip to the gym, and today we were able to put the final touches on rehearsals and practice for next week's fitness testing. When we got back, many were still perspiring as they began to fill out their Spelling Bingo sheets. Admittedly, this first list is meant to test them, and gauge their study habits, so I was happy to see so many of the tackle words like "Legislature" and "Parliamentary" with a smile on their face. After recess the students had 30 minutes to finish up their Art Folders or to work on their supplies boxes. At around 11:30am, I fired up the LCD projector and started to show the class how to build a word document and how to add images and pictures. (We will go more in depth tomorrow, with the Windows PCs that most of the students will be using.) After lunch we were fortunate enough to have a guest presenter, Mrs. Cecilia Reekie, who had the students take part in the Blanket Exercise. I would love for you to find our more from our child about this, but you can prompt them with questions like: how do "reservations", "treaties", "residential schools" and "colonization" relate to what they learned today.
HOMEWORK: Students need to finish taking notes on the 6 different simple machines from the video posted on the Science Page, and they should take some time to study their spelling words (which can be found on the English Page) ahead of tomorrow's spelling quiz.
REMINDER: Tomorrow is hot lunch, and Monday is ORANGE SHIRT DAY. (If your child doesn't have an orange shirt and would like to purchase one, there were shirts available at Michael's for only $6)
