Today's reading of "Malala: Activist for Girls' Education" offered the class one of the harder books we've read so far, and I was really pleased with the students efforts to comprehend and pronounce their way through the foreign names and locations. The most important aspect of today's book was to get a better understanding of who Malala is as a public figure and why her story is so inspirational. Her story, along with those of Ernest Just and Lonnie Johnson will frame one of our writing assignments next week, so please make sure everyone has read and understand's today's reading.
HOMEWORK: If you have not yet handed in your Real Estate Area and Floor Plans assignment, please get it handed in as soon as possible, as I plan to go through everyone's Hand In folder tomorrow. Also, take some time this evening to review how to calculate perimeter (adding all the sides together), area (length x width or height = units squared) as well as mm -> cm -> m -> km . There will also be a question on two using feet, but you will NOT need to convert Metric to Imperial measurements. Most of the questions use metric units.
REMINDER: Wednesday is a work day for ALL students, and everyone must complete their Measurement, Perimeter and Area quiz between 9am - 10:30am . You are welcome to use a calculator, but PLEASE be done by the 10:30am deadline. The link to the 10 question multiple choice quiz is posted on the Numeracy page, but it is not accessible until 9am.
Note: if you have not signed up for a time to come get your Woodblock Racer kits or drop of your design on Thursday, please click the link to be taken to the sign up schedule below.
