After 4 days away from school it was great to be back with the students online this morning. I loved hearing about Iah building a bike ramp, Cole's golfing adventure and touching base with Ms. Freistadt and the entire class. One of the things I have noticed of late is that it is often the same 7 or 8 students who carry the load when it comes to actively participating in our online meet ups. I would challenge the remaining students to really try to put themselves out there and share more often over the next couple of weeks. Our best learning often takes place when we take chances and do things outside of our comfort zone. The Weekly Learning Schedule offers little in terms of surprises this week, with a heavy focus on learning the essentials of measurement through some BrainPop Jr. Videos. As I mentioned earlier in our meet up, I know that BrainPop Jr. is a bit basic in it's presentation, but the videos do an excellent job of explaining the key elements of Imperial and Metric measurements, as well as doing a good job of detailing how to calculate perimeter and area. Today's current events reading is based on the postponement of the 2020 Summer Olympics, and I would ask the students to make sure they put their best foot forward with their comprehension questions, as this is the only written assignment I currently have assigned for them this week. I have also assigned each student this week's reading book for our reading groups on Thursday.
Below is the trivia, math and puzzles we did to finish of our meet up this morning!
REMINDER: If you have any incomplete assignments, please get them into me as soon as you can. I am planning to update the work completed spreadsheet tomorrow. As always send me a message in Teams or an email if you are unsure of what you are missing.
NOTE: There has been a lot of news lately about the Province hoping to move into Phase 3 in early June, with plans for a modified return to school for students. Nothing has been finalized, and Mrs. Lainchbury and I spoke this morning and the latest is that the school district is awaiting further directions from the Ministry of Education as well as the Ministry of Health. As soon as more information is released it will be passed along through an email from the school district or our school office. In the meantime, let me know if you have any questions and keep up the great work, as we continue to learn from home.
