I really tested the students today, by challenging their perspectives and asking them to consider alternate points of views. It all stemmed from our introduction to our week of studying for Remembrance Day, and with this being the centennial of the end of the First World War, our focus this week will be on the Great War. Our day began with a quick video to prompt a mind map activity. We then switched to a more Canadian-focused approach, and looked at a CBC mini-documentary on the Battle for Vimy Ridge. After a flurry of raised hands and questions, we put war-talk on the back burner while we moved tables and introduced out November Table Groups. After recess, it was Library time with Madame Gammel. After lunch, we headed down to Mrs. O'Shea's class for Lil' Buddies, and seeing as it was still nice out, the class spent 15 minutes outside playing together with the kindergartners on the primary playground. When we returned to class, we worked on creating flash cards for our French vocabulary. To cap the day, I played a Crash Course Video that tried to help answer Jack's question "Who started the First World War?" (see the Social Studies page for today's videos)
